City Guide, Singapore

Singapore is a small island nation located in Southeast Asia, between Malaysia and Indonesia. Singapore is made up of sixty-three islands, and is home to one of the world's biggest ports. As a city-state, Singapore is both the country and its capital. Singapore Island is the main island of Singapore, which is also called Pulau Ujong. This island is the largest island of Singapore as well as the most populous, with a population of over 5 million. Singapore Island has an area of about 710 square kilometers.

Tourist Attractions

Singapore has a lot of attractions to offer to its visitors: from the numerous nature parks to the museums and colonial reminders monuments and building. Visitors can experience the country’s old world charm through many designated heritage trails. Visits to Chinatown, Kampong Glam (the Malay district) and Little India offer a wealth of experiences that are akin to travelling around a much larger land. Aside from its old world charm, Singapore offers one of the most modern city centers in the world.

The Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoological Gardens, Singapore Crocodilarium, Night Safari, Insect Kingdom, Butterfly Park, National Museum, Air Force Museum, Mint Coin Gallery, Labrador Secret Tunnels, Stamps Gallery, Chinatown, Holland Village, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Fort Canning Park, East Coast Park, Marina South City Park, and Mount Faber are only some of the hundreds of places that the Singapore Tourism Board has managed to popularize across the world due to its determined and concerted efforts.

Culture and Entertainment

The culture of Singapore is one of the richest in the world - a fact that becomes even more impressive and fascinating when one considers the recent history and small size of the country. The National Day Parade in Singapore encapsulates its entire culture and portrays the tremendous success that the nation has been able to attain, while retaining its essence.

Singapore has always had a vibrant and exciting musical past. Singapore's folk music incorporates elements of Tamil, Chinese, and Malay sounds to produce a lovely amalgamation of sounds that is distinctly Singaporean! Special mention must be made of Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, which is Singapore's main arts centre. Esplanade is now home to Singapore classical music, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and several concerts that take place through the year.

Food and Drink

Some of the Singaporean dishes that have acquired a cult status are Bak kut teh, Nasi lemak, Satay, Hokkien mee, Laksa, and Rojak. Singapore food does not disappoint on the seafood front either. One can sample a mind-boggling array of dishes rustled up with oysters, squids, clams, crabs, stingrays.

All great cities of the world have a big wheel these days, and Singapore is no exception. Lifting you 165 m (540 feet) into the air, the Singapore Flyer is the world’s largest observation wheel, providing amazing panoramic views of the city, the sea and the surrounds. Enjoy a 90-minute fine-dining experience with panoramic views aboard the Singapore Flyer. It towers above Singapore's iconic landmarks - Marina Bay, Singapore River, Raffles Place financial district - and features the world's first full-butler dinner service in the sky. You'll make two complete rotations over the course of 60 minutes on this architectural and engineering marvel.
